Assessing The Impact of Technical Barriers to Trade on Algerian Exports of Iron and Steel Articles
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aims to assess the impact of technical barriers to trade (TBT) on Algerian exports of iron and steel articles during the period 2010-2023 by using the gravity model of trade. We find that the impact of technical barriers to trade on Algerian exports of iron and steel articles was negative and statistically significant, and therefore technical barriers to trade led to a decrease in Algerian exports of iron and steel articles, which indicates that these barriers constitute an obstacle to the entry of iron and steel articles exports to international markets. The study concluded that Algerian iron and steel companies should make improvements to their exported iron and steel articles in order to increase the quality, and work to harmonize these products with technical requirements and standard specifications to overcome the restrictions imposed by technical barriers to trade, which will contribute to increasing the exports of the iron and steel sector.
